Gretchen is a musical theatre performer, director, and writer originally from the Los Angeles area. She is a proud graduate of the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at Catholic University where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in Musical Theatre. As a performer, some favorite roles include Maria in West Side Story, Miranda in The Tempest, Artful Dodger in Oliver!, and Monteen in Parade. She was last seen as a soloist in West Side Story Concert Suite No. 2 at the Kennedy Center. As a director, Gretchen has assisted on such productions as Carousel at Catholic University, Romeo et Juliette with Maryland Lyric Opera, and Girl Versus Corinth with Monumental Theatre Company, as well as been sole director for Twelve Angry Men, The Exorcism Room, and Decisive Device with Centerstage Theatre Company, where she served as Artist Director. Gretchen is also a prolific musical theatre lyricist-bookwriter. Her work has been performed by soloists such as Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek of Anonymous 4 and Matthew Worth, and has been featured at the New York Music Theatre Festival, Synetic Theatre, The Chorus of Westerly, and Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, UK. Her first musical, First Light, was presented by Centerstage Theatre Company at Catholic University in 2014, and her second musical, Wendy, written with collaborator John Henderson, will receive its world premiere production with L’Enfant Rebelle Theatre Company in early 2017. As a teacher, Gretchen focuses on building a foundation of healthy, classical technique and blending it with contemporary styles (musical theatre/pop). She loves seeing her students get excited about singing and working on new material!
