Phillips Saylor Wisor is a songwriter, performer and educator originally from the DC area. after receiving his degree in Ethnomusicology from Hampshire College in 2002, he has toured and recorded extensively throughout North America with his folk band (The Shiftless Rounders), his solo project (Stripmall Ballads) and as a band member with some of the best acts in the Americana/Folk genre (Be Good Tanyas/Po’ Girl, King Wilke, Vandaveer, Sarah Harmer). His background in North American folk music and his genuine passion for education make him an engaging and dynamic teacher. Phillips has taught countless students on the banjo, guitar, mandolin, ukelele and bass, with particular emphasis on oral tradition and ear training. Using creative approaches, Phillips customizes lessons to meet the unique learning styles of each student.
