Amanda Thorstad is a skilled multi-instrumentalist deeply rooted in both classical and folk music traditions. Amanda grew up playing piano, viola and percussion, culminating in a BA in Music from St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN). Amanda later shifted her focus to folk music, with a particular interest in string band and dance music in the American old-time tradition. Amanda performs on banjo, fiddle, and guitar – primarily with The October Sessions, locally based in Washington, DC.

Amanda teaches fiddle and banjo to students of all ages and skill levels, with a strong emphasis on building a foundation in music theory, learning by ear, and playing with other musicians.
